With what feels like endless free time I’ve been able to catch up on one of my favorite manga series, a manga that doesn’t get the attention it deserves so I’m gonna share it with you all because its too good not to share! Before I get started I can tell you that you don’t have to worry this is a spoiler free post!
“Akatsuki no Yona” or the English translation “Yona of the Dawn” is one of those manga’s where I picked up the first volume at Barns and Nobel on a whim because the cover was pretty and didn’t think I’d like it as much as I did. I proceeded to spend the rest of the night and most of the next few days reading the rest of the manga on any manga website I could get my hands on. It’s just so good and so hard to stop reading once you start that I ended up reading all the available chapters in three days.
There were many things bout the manga that made it hard to put down. It’s set in a world inspired by Asian cultures so the manga is both aesthetically pleasing and contains a great story that keeps you entertained. The story holds your attention with a mix of seriousness, sadness, humor and a killer plot that surrounds a princess, ancient dragon warriors, reincarnation, betrayal, growth, and self discovery. Making it very hard not to be held captive by the manga as the story unfolds!
“Yona of the Dawn” is a fantasy, adventure, and romance manga written and illustrated by Mizuho Kusanagi and is currently ongoing with thirty-two volumes and an anime adaptation. The twenty-four episode anime adaptation and three OVA’s that accompany it almost perfectly follow the first eight volumes of the manga and the OVA’s tell more backstory on two of the dragon warriors and gives a glimpse at the original dragon warriors prior to the start of the manga. So, if you don’t know if you want to read the manga or not, the anime is a perfect introduction to the story, the world, and the characters.

Now let me gush about the characters because oh my they are so good! If someone was to ask me what my favorite character was, I literally couldn’t tell them the answer, I even have sympathies and you could even say I like the “bad guy” of the story! Although with that being said I really love the Dragon warriors! Take a look at the main characters!

Below I’m just going to dump pictures of the manga from chapter covers and volume covers that I really like! I hope I end up dragging some more people in to this manga series! Enjoy!
