My NYC trip was wild and thrilling but by far the COOLEST invite I got was the invite to the premiere of Toho/Funimation’s SHIN GODZILLA last Thursday night. First of all, all my pals have been wild about this movie since it was announced. My roommate Keith is VERY into Godzilla (and I regret that he couldn’t go with) and everything I know about Godzilla I learned from him.. he’s pretty cool, so Godzilla must be cool too. But more specifically, here’s a list of cool things about Shin Godzilla:
- It’s Toho’s first Godzilla film since 2004.
- American distrubutor Funimation is releasing a subtitled version of Shin Godzilla in theaters from October 11th – October 18th 2016 only! (hey, that starts today!)
- It was written and directed by Hideaki Anno, creator of Evangelion
- THE MUSIC COMPOSER is Shiro Sagisu, who also worked on Evangelion
Basically, whoa. What a good time that movie was. First off, I got to see it a week early, which was totally rad. Then they gave me a COOL exclusive shirt, a cool movie poster, free popcorn, a slushie, and basically just the most ultimate movie experience I’ve ever had, complete with PHOTOS WITH GODZILLA.
That’s Coty, Godzilla & Meeeee!!!
OK. SO onto stuff about the movie (with no spoilers) – Yes, it’s subtitled. Which is cool because you experience the movie the original way it was supposed to be experienced, and the subtitles don’t take away from the extreme action at all. AND I MEAN EXTREME, it was so cool. SO COOL. I’m trying to not give spoilers? It’s hard, because I want to tell you all about how Godzilla looked but that’s like, the best part. Basically Godzilla looked and acted fucking badass. And the entire cast’s acting was ON POINT. You gonna’ love.
I want to thank Funimation for not only inviting me but spoiling me, and for bringing this movie to theaters in North America so my friends can enjoy this. Hell. Yeah.
Oh – and a really cool bonus from the whole night: Two actors from Stranger Things were sitting in the row in front of us! Finn Wolfhard (Mike) and Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas). They were really nice when I met them and they were excited for the movie. It was Caleb McLaughlin’s first Godzilla experience, and I got a chance to talk to him after the movie and he thought it was really good. So go check it out! ~
