a Jem and the Holograms movie rant

The Jem and the Holograms movie is set to be released in theaters really soon on October 23rd, and I’ve been thinking about it a lot. My main concerns are that the reboot won’t stay true to the original Jem story – we already know a lot is missing from the trailer. The starlight house, Jerrica’s dad dying, and possibly even the holograms and synergy herself? That’s what it seemed like to me. I love the original story. Nothing recent quite compares to the late 1980’s aesthetic and kindness that Jerrica’s character has.
So I was considering not even giving the live action movie a chance.

Original Jem voice actress Samantha Newark posts a LOT about the upcoming movie, so she must be pretty excited. Recently she’s even appeared at cons to promote it. My problem with reboots is that I constantly forget that times have changed and young girls wouldn’t be into the original Jem based on the old animation styles alone. They had to change stuff up to get the younger generation into this movie. I am kind of a jerk and I’m never positive about change in a series I love (but always excited when I hear something I love is getting rebooted?). Anyway, it doesn’t loook sooooooo bad. We can hope that it will somehow work in Jerrica’s good morals or at the very least get the younger generation into good stuff like original Jem and the Holograms. I’ll check it out. How bad could it be?
